Founded in 2017, Hope Farm was created with a vision of ‘Doing Green and Doing Good’ for the community. Such a feat was accomplished by allowing young adults with physical or mental disabilities to be involved in the farming of organic vegetables. Through this initiative, these young adults with disabilities are given a chance at building an independent life. At the farm, valuable skills are developed, including organic farming, communication abilities and self-confidence. Being equipped with the capability of earning for themselves, these young adults may begin to realize a self-reliant and respectable life.
Furthermore, a volunteer programme runs alongside Hope Farm. Dozens of volunteers from more than 20 countries have volunteered at Hope Farm, engaging in activities from teaching English to sharing international experiences. Volunteers enrich the social aspects of the young adults and the lives of these young adults inspire that of the volunteers, bringing about a symbiotic relationship.
To strengthen these young adults’ work ethics and social skills, a secondary enterprise of processing tea leaves, baking cookies and producing picked vegetables are also made available on the farm. Such skills are split into level 1, 2 and 3 and when combined will allow for a 6-level (1 x 2 x 3) industry integration into society. These abilities will prove vital for such adults to achieve the goals and aspirations they have in lives.
Last but not least, Hope Farm serves as pilot of CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) x CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility). This successful demonstration presents as an illustration of how CSR may be incorporated into CSA.
